Ea consta in alterarea relaxarii si tensionarii principalelor grupe de muschi, pana la eliminarea contractiilor musculare si atingerea relaxarii. Se lucreaza astfel progresiv muschii mainii, antebratului, bratului, se contracta maxilarul, se ridica pieptul, abdomenul. Pacientii care isi impuneau auto-sugestia ca sunt relaxati reuseau sa isi comute sistemul nervos din starea de stres in cea de relaxare.
